So, I actually had to do some work this morning and it was kind of wierd since I had gotten used to the whole not doing crap thing. So, I have had this mixing board for about a week now (the Yamaha 01x) and I still can't get it to do what it was purchased to do... i.e. record anything. It is the most god-damn complicated piece of machinery I have ever had the misfortune to get involved with. I am pretty sure at this point that it is a problem with the mlan drivers that allow it to communitcate with my computer rather than an inherent problem with the board or myself.
... So, it is now three days later (10/21) and as it turns out, when I got home the day that I wrote the first part of this message, I managed to get the board to work properly. At any rate, today is the last clinical day of my pedi neuro rotation... I can't say that I am going to miss it, though the people have all been pretty friendly. It is a little depressing to see only kids that are all jacked up neurologically. Alright, time to go study for the test.
It is best not to know your own limitiation since they can only limit your potential.

You know, I am not one to talk about the good old days, but on the way to "work" today I got to thinking about the good old 1990s...
Remember when "terrorist" meant a bunch of redneck weekend warriors?
Remember when the president lied about consentual acts and we all had a good laugh about it?
Remember when the president didn't just invade countries and say oops I guess I was wrong afterwards?
Remember when you could put your money in the stock market as a way to increase it rather than watch it fluctuate so rapidly that it gives you seizures?
Remember when we voted the last Bush out of office because he was a lying piece of crap?... yeah that was awsome.

So, I am sitting here at the Bank One building with whitey, and in the grand tradition of fourth year medical students, we are sitting on it. Pediatric neurology is an interesting subspecialty... and by interesting I mean a complete waste of time for everyone involved. Whitey has actually surpassed all the attendings on this service because he is now able to twirl his reflex hammer three time consecutively... sort of a kick back to his cheerleading days.

We are at the end of week two of my Ob/Gyn rotation... it is not so bad except for the fact that when a woman pushes the baby out, pretty much everything from shit to placents comes along for the ride. The only thing that I have learned on this rotation is that I am really glad that I am a guy...
So, I have been going through Kaku's book on QFT, though it is slow going since I am a little rusty on my field theory and tensor manipulations. It surprises me how many things there are that I don't understand yet that I really should know by now. For example, I was just reviewing classical field theory in O(2) and I realized that I can't work out the reason behind the basic scalar field transformations identities. Well, I think it is time to go study for my test... I am on call right now but it is a really slow night so not much going on.

So, I just finished doing my work for the last day of Internal Medicine. All I have left to do is take the final exam on friday and then I get two weeks off. It looks like I am going to have to spend some of that time in Houston recovering and then Austin drinking. I have a feeling that friday night is going to get messy. I already told my parents that I wouldn't be coming home until Saturday evening at the earliest. Now, I have about 72 hours to learn everything about all the diseases known to man... shouldn't be too hard.

Have you ever looked back on something that you wrote in the past and wondered what the hell you were thinking? My last entry sure is long, and yet it says so very little. I make a new pledge to think things through before I start writing... sort of a blog public service from me to you the reader (which consists of me and my sister pretty much). Well, I don't know if I am going to be more regular about posting to the blog, but eternal medicine is winding down at this point so I am going to start having a little more free time. Speaking of which, I am going to go study right now... later
